During the Test
For the sleep study, you will view a brief video presentation. Monitoring devices will be applied to allow for the recording of physiological variables (brain wave activity, heart/respiratory rate, oxygen level, limb movements, muscle activity) during your sleep. After the hook-up, which will take approximately 45 minutes, you will lie on your back while performing the following: move eyes left and right, blink, grind teeth, flex the toes and breathe in and out You will then be instructed to sleep. Your sleep will be videotaped for later review by physicians for any abnormalities during the study.
No sedatives or sleeping pills will be given by the technician because recording "normal" sleep is best.
After the Test
Your study will end at approximately 5:30 a.m. Your technician will remove the monitoring devices and allow you to "wash up." You will complete a post-sleep questionnaire.
Test Results
Your referring physician will receive a copy of the results approximately five to seven business days after your study date. Please contact your physician's office to schedule an appointment to discuss the results of your study.
