Intractable Pain

Most pain conditions are only temporary, and the pain subsides with time and treatment. Some pain can persist despite extensive medical efforts; this type of pain is called “intractable.” For some individuals suffering from intractable pain, functional neurosurgical procedures can provide relief.

Northwestern Memorial is at the forefront of advanced surgical pain management techniques and is one of the leading regional centers for spinal cord stimulation. We are helping to pioneer innovative techniques in cortical and deep brain stimulation for pain, as well as minimally invasive peripheral stimulation for facial pain and headaches.
