Breast cancer receives a large amount of attention in the national media as a woman has a one-in-eight chance that she will develop it during her lifetime. The key is being vigilant in prevention, early detection and proactive in communicating with your doctor. Kevin Bethke, MD, explains factors to consider in each step of the screening process. This includes everything from family history and genetics to mammography films to needle core ultrasound and, if necessary, a mastectomy and immediate reconstruction.
